ALIZA SARIAN taught theatre arts in the New York City public schools for 14 years before relocating to Calgary, Alberta. In addition to middle school instruction at the prestigious Salk School of Science, she’s worked with the Department of Education developing assessments, designing curricula, and facilitating professional development.

Aliza has co-chaired the NY Theatre in our Schools Conference and has worked as a consultant for Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, where she provided mentorship to career-change artists as they entered the world of full-time classroom teaching. She has been a faculty member at New York University and Hunter and Manhattanville Colleges.

She holds a B.S. in Teaching Theatre Arts from Appalachian State University, an M.A. in Educational Theatre from NYU, and a certificate in Drama in Education from Trinity College, Dublin.

In addition to her work in education, Aliza has collaborated on new play development with international playwrights and off-Broadway theatre companies like MCC Theater and incubators such as The Bechdel Group. During her time in NYC, she worked with a range of institutions including Disney Theatrical Group.

Aliza’s students have gone on to study acting and playwriting at prestigious performing arts high schools and universities, performing in and producing work on and off-Broadway, as well as working professionally in film and television.

She currently teaches, directs, and consults across North America. She lives with her husband, Alex, and dogs, Olive & Pickle.
